So uh...Raytheon, the engineering company in my backyard, is the world's largest producer of guided missiles. They invented the microwave oven. They're also the fifth largest defense contractor in the world.

They own the military technology side of Texas Instruments (the company that makes that graphic caculator in your desk), and owned Hughes Aircraft for a while in the late 1990s.
Raytheon sold its shares of Hughes to GM and Boeing.

Hughes Electronics created DirecTV.

Hughes Electronics, along with DirecTV, was then sold to GM, who then sold it to News Corporation (NWS).
NWS is one of the world's largest media conglomerates.

NWS owns:

Harper Collins,

The New York Post,

The Wallstreet Journal,

Marketwatch,

SmartMoney,

Vogue (Australia),

MySpace Records,

all of FOX,

Blue Sky Studios (produced IceAge),

New Regency Productions,

FX Networks,

and a bajillion other companies in Australia and throughout the world.

NWS is owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Rupert Murdoch is one rich mofo.

This is what rich looks like.
Not the gangstas living the life of fur blankets, decked out cars and beautiful women, not what you see on The Real Housewives of the OC, not Marthat Stewart, not Oprah, even.

THIS is what rich means.
THIS is what it means to play Monopoly.

I was just trying to find out what the guy meant by "U.S. Army is the largest corporation in the U.S." and this is what it led to.

See, I thought Raytheon was just some chemicals company, since alot of UCSB chemical engineer graduates try to find work with them.
But uh, I guess they're one of the largest defense contracters in the world (sends mercenaries and whatnot).

On the upside, they created the microwave oven, which I'm grateful for.
I mean, baking a potato in 5 minutes? That's just amazing.
